How to change, add and remove files:
To upload new files, connect Talk 8 to a host computer using the USB-C port on the rear panel. Talk 8 will show up as an external USB drive on your computer. Navigate to this drive and you will be able to add and remove audio files as needed.
Adding sub folders can be used to help organise audio files and to make it easier when assigning files to buttons and routines. Important - there is a path length limit of 85 characters and a maximum of two folders deep. Meta data file names have a limit of 35 characters. Any files or folders that exceed these limits will not be accessible.
Once the new files have been added and old ones modified or removed, eject the Talk 8 drive from your computer and disconnect the USB cable. Talk 8 will then prepare or update the list of files to show in Web App. This will be indicated by the Talk 8 LED flashing green.
Talk 8 will generate a hidden peak (.pk) file for each audio file to stores the wave form that is displayed on the announcement page in WebApp. These ".pk" files will be hidden on the filing system by default but will display if you have "show hidden files" enabled on your host device. ".pk" files can be ignored as Talk 8 will update, regenerate or remove them for each audio file as necessary.
If a file has been removed from the Talk 8 that the chime or an announcement button was relying on, WebApp will display a warning prompting the user to take action. This can normally be rectified by re-uploading the file with the same name or selecting a new path in WebApp.
Audio File Formats
Audio files uploaded to Talk 8 must be ".wav" format, either 44.1kHz or 48kHz sample rate, up to 2 channels and a 16bit depth.
Talk 8 will not recognise any other common audio formats such as .mp3, .m4a, .AAC or .FLAC.
If Talk 8 is not recognising uploaded files please see Talk 8 - Troubleshooting.
