Status Indicator
The Talk 8 status indicator LED is located on the front panel of the unit, to the right of the XLR input for the Mic 1.
Colour | Mode | Status |
Blue • | Solid | The unit is performing initial firmware checks in bootloader. |
Orange • | Flashing | Updating Firmware. The unit is updating its firmware from the main Zone unit. |
Green • | Solid | The unit is attached to a computer via USB for audio file maintenance. The surface controls will not operate in this mode. |
Green • | Flashing | The new audio files are being processed and sent to the main zone unit. |
White ○ | Solid | Normal operation |
Red•/Blue• | Flashing | The unit has failed to establish a connection with the main zone unit, check plugging. |
Red•/Green• | Flashing | The unit is in maintenance mode. |
Red • | Solid | A critical error has occurred and the unit has stopped. Reboot and check WebApp log files for details. See - WebApp - Logs |
Magenta • | Solid | Group edit mode enabled. A group button is held down and Zones can be assigned to that group. |
Cyan • | Solid | Surface controls are locked. |
Talk Button
The large backlit Talk button at the bottom of the front panel of Talk 8 will illuminate in the following ways to indicate

Off | Idle. The unit is in an idle state | |
White ○ | Solid | Zone Selection. There are zones selected and the unit is ready to make an announcement or start talking. |
Yellow • | Solid | Zone Selection with Chime. The are zones selected and the unit is ready to make an announcement or start talking with a chime enabled. |
Yellow • | Flashing | The selected chime is playing and the microphone is muted. |
Green • | Solid | Talking. The microphone is unmuted and transmitting to the selected zones. |
Announcement Buttons
Located in the centre of the front panel, these are the six slots where you assign your chimes.
Colour | Mode | Status |
White ○ | Solid | File available. There is a file available to play on the selected zones. |
White ○ | Flashing | File playing. The file attached to that button is currently being played. |
Zone Buttons
Either side of the Announcement buttons are the Zone selection buttons. These allow you to send announcements to arm a single or multiple zones to play announcements over.

White ○ | Solid | Zone Selected. That zone is currently selected and will receive audio from the unit (file or microphone). |
Red • | Solid | Zone Blocked. That zone is unavailable to receive audio from the unit. |
Group Select Buttons
Zones can be assigned to any of four groups to allow multi-zone announcements in a single button press.
Colour | Mode | Status |
White ○ | Solid | Group(s) Selected. All zones within the selected groups will receive audio from the unit. |
Red • | Solid | Group(s) Blocked. One or more zones in that group are unavailable to receive audio from the unit. |
