Connections
Talk 8 is connected via a single CAT5 cable to the Zone unit. Identify the socket on the rear of Talk 8 marked ZONE. Connect to one of the sockets on the rear of the Zone unit marked PAGING INPUTS.
Up to two unit can be connected to operate together on Zone 4, 4P, 8 or 8P. See Talk 8 - Working with two Talk 8 units.
Firmware Update
Talk 8 will automatically update its firmware from the Zone unit in the same way as ZonePad, if a new update is available. During this process, both the Zone power light and the Talk 8 status light will flash orange. Once the firmware update is complete, the Talk 8 status LED will turn static white. See also Talk 8 LED Status.
If Talk 8's status light flashes blue and red, the Talk 8 has failed to establish a connection to the main Zone unit. Check that the CAT5 cable is connected to the correct sockets on both the Talk 8 and Zone unit as specified above.
Maintenance Mode
If Talk 8 fails to update, it will boot into a maintenance mode, where the buttons will not respond but the USB will be enabled. This will allow a host device to connect to diagnose why Talk will not update via a log file on the internal storage.
