Instructions on how to replace one or more amplifier modules within a Zone 4P/8P.
Tools required
- No.1 Pozidrive (PZ1) screwdriver for all screws
- Small flat-blade screwdriver or hook for FFC ribbon connector release
Safety
WARNING: SHOCK HAZARD. Please ensure the unit is disconnected from the mains supply before removing the cover.
We recommend ESD precautions are taken when handling the new amplifier module.
Removing the lid
- Unscrew 6 countersink M3 screws from the top of the unit. Note the shorter length screw used directly over the fan. There are five M3 x 4mm and one M3 x 3mm.
- Unscrew the four countersink M3 x 6mm screws from the side of the unit, two on each side towards the rear.
- If the rack ears are fitted, remove the four M3 x 6mm screws on each side of the unit to remove the rack ears.
- If the rack ears are not fitted, remove the four M3 x 6mm screws on each side of the unit towards the front.
- Lift away the lid of the unit, retaining all screws for reassembly.
Disconnect the wireforms
- On the vertical amplifier connector riser board, disconnect the speaker wireworms from J106 and J107 by squeezing the release clip and pulling away from the board.
- You may find it easier to work in the unit if both ends of these are disconnected and the wireworms put to one side.
- Disconnect the main power wireworm from the top centre of the riser board, J109.
- Disconnect the two smaller power wireforms J110 and J108.
- Disconnect the multi-way power wireform J8000A.
- Carefully disconnect the FFC ribbon cables attached to J104 and J105. In order to do this, use a small hook to release the brown locking bar at each end, then pull the ribbon cable away from the board. There should be no resistance to the cable if the locking bar is correctly released.
Remove the riser board
- Remove the five M3 pan-head screws securing the riser board to the metal bracket.
- Carefully pull the riser board away from amplifier modules. You will need to ease each connector off a little at a time, keeping the board straight until they are all released.
Module removal
Remove and retain the outer screws from the amplifier module and withdraw from the heatsink. Some heatsink compound will be present on the mating surfaces.
Fit the new module
Apply some heatsink compound to the new amplifier module heatsink on the mating surface and fit the module to the power supply heatsink with the two M3 pan-head screws.
Re-Assembly
- Refit the riser board by carefully aligning the right-angle pin headers of all the amplifier modules. Press the board home, again ensuring to keep the board as flat as possible during this process.
- Refit all the wireforms - double checking these are in the correct places and securely engaged. FFC ribbon cables should be gently inserted with the brown locking bar loose, then press the locking bar to engage the cable.
- Check all parts are secure and no tools have been left in the unit.
- Replace the lid and fit all screws. Taking care to fit the correct screw
- Refit the rack-ears if previously fitted.
